WomenTechWorld.org Connects Female Techicians and Technology Students

To help female students in the technology field, the Institute for Women in Trades, Technology and Science (IWITTS) has developed WomenTechWorld.org, an on-line community dedicated to providing women technicians a way to connect with one another.

WomenTechWorld.org is a national website catering to female technicians and technology students.  At the site, women can engage with other female technicians via WomenTech Talk, a listserv for women in male-dominated careers.  The email discussion group was developed in 2000, and currently has about 500 participants, providing each other with peer support and problem solving about being a woman in a man’s world.

Another great feature of the WomenTechWorld website is E-Jobs, an online job board that connects female job seekers with employers who are actively seeking female job applicants in typically male-dominated professions. This service includes great features like Auto Notify that lets you know when a job comes up matching your criteria and My Checklist, which saves your favorite job opportunities for easy reference.

WomenTechWorld.org also offers E-Mentoring, which is designed to connect female students in technology and trades with women successfully working in those fields to provide guidance and support from women who have been there. Female students can also read Role Model Biographies, a collection of profiles of women in diverse occupations such as auto technicians, computer network engineers and detectives.

Research shows women in male-dominated fields that reach out and connect with each other improve their chances of success in the classroom and on the job.
