IMPE Newletter

IMPE News Bulletin

Dear Members and Supporters of the IMPE,

We are quickly approaching our first performance and there is a lot of information that I need to share with everyone so that this performance goes off as smoothly as possible.  I will try to anticipate as many of your questions as I can but if there are still concerns, please E mail me, or catch me after rehearsal.

  1. Rehearsal Schedule.  Thursday the 17th and Tuesday the 22nd will be normal rehearsals.  This Saturday the 19th will be a camp.  Students need to report by 8:30, rehearsal begins at 9:00 and will conclude at 3:00.  We need to have the entire first song on the floor with music by the end of this camp if possible.

  1. Performance Schedule:  We go on the floor at Miamisburg High School at 6:00 on Saturday the 26th.  We are one of two Regional A drum lines.  A detailed itinerary of the day will be posted on this website, and passed out to the students shortly. Please reserve the entire day beginning at 1:00 in the afternoon.

  1. Performance Uniform:  For this performance, we are asking that all students wear black pants, black T shirts and black shoes.  Other uniform parts will be assigned in the near future.

  1. Travel Uniform: All students performing or supporting the IMPE will wear their button down Hamilton High School Bands shirt.  Long sleeve Ts, Turtlenecks or other clothing may be worn underneath at their option.  Jeans or other pants are acceptable to wear, however HHS band regulations will always prevail.

  1. Money and personal items: Students may bring money for concessions, and to buy souvenirs.  Many groups will set up booster tables, and the students have enjoyed purchasing various items in the past.  Cell Phones, I Pods, Lap Tops jewelry and other valuables are strongly discouraged.  Do not bring any items that you would be upset that you lost.  School books and study materials are strongly encouraged.

  1. Equipment Crew:  We need as many parents or older siblings as possible to come and help us move on and off the floor.  This is a timed event, just like Fall band, and we have a lot of equipment to move in and out.  The last hour of the Saturday camp will be dedicated to entrance and exits.  If you think you are going to be able to help at the contest, please come and practice with us on Saturday.

  1. Admission to the contest will be $8:00 per adult, $7.00 per student and kids 6 and under are free.  All performers will not be required to pay admission.  There will be a small number of staff passes that I will try to distribute among people that are helping to move equipment.  Please do not count on getting a staff pass.  Parents and siblings moving equipment will still be required to purchase admission into the event.

  1. Video Taping:  No video taping of any type is permitted at MEPA events.

  1. Status of the Show: We are presently about halfway through the first song.  We will have the first song completed by the end of camp on Saturday, and this puts us ahead of where we were last year.  Do not be concerned that the show is not finished.  Most groups shows are not finished at this point.

Urgent Needs:

We have the following urgent needs:

1.      Students MUST get their fees in ASAP.  To date, we have only received enough money to buy our MEPA Membership, some critical odds and ends for equipment, and paint for the tarp.  We do not have enough money for scenery, nor do we have enough to put fuel in the equipment truck.  This seriously compromises our ability to compete and travel.

2.      We need to build at least two dollies to put percussion equipment on, as well as fashion some holders for misc. percussion.  These will not be difficult to make, but I don’t have the time to make them myself.

3.      We need to find time to wash and paint the tarp.  We will need about 9 adults to do this.  This is real paint that we will be using, so we need to be very careful about how we do this.

4.      We will need to build and paint our backdrop (once we can purchase it).  We will also need to create several large props.  Once again, I don’t think this will be terribly difficult, but I cannot do it myself.

5.      The sooner we can get this finished, the better.

Thank you for all of your support.  We cannot do this without you.
